Matt Cowley signs full season F4 U.S. Championship deal with Century Auto Racing

LAS VEGAS (January 20, 2018) – During the annual Sports Car Club of America National Convention in Las Vegas on Saturday, SCCA Formula F National Runoffs champion Matt Cowley of Manchester, England, confirmed his transition from club competitor to junior professional driver with SCCA Pro Racing’s Formula 4 United States Championship Powered by Honda. The three-time national champion campaigns for his first international title under Century Auto Racing. The announcement comes just one week after a successful test with the newly-formed F4 U.S. three-car team at MSR Houston. “I am really excited to join the F4 U.S grid with Century Auto Racing,” said Cowley. “The series offers great competition with consistently large grid sizes and extremely close racing.”

While Century Auto Racing and Cowley are new to the F4 U.S field, their winning track record together began in 2017 with Formula Race Promotion’s F1600 Championship. Under Geoff Bushor, the owner and operator of Century Auto Racing and Team Pelfrey, Cowley claimed his first national title in the United States driving a Honda-powered F1600. The crescendo to his 2017 season with Bushor was during the SCCA National Championship Runoffs at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, earning a national title in his first Runoffs attempt. “It is great to be able to continue my relationship with Geoff and his new Century Auto Racing team,” said Cowley. “Geoff and his team have developed a culture of winning and I’m honored to be part of their new venture into F4 U.S.” Cowley will be awarded the President’s Cup at the SCCA National Convention Hall of Fame Induction and Awards Ceremony Saturday evening, joining a prestigious list of recipients like Roger Penske, Skip Barber, and Bobby Rahal. First presented in 1954 by then President Dwight D. Eisenhower, the President’s Cup is awarded to the SCCA driver demonstrating ability, competitiveness and success at the SCCA National Championship Runoffs. The winner is selected by the Stewards of the Meeting and the Chief Steward of the National Championship Runoffs.

Century Auto Racing still has two seats available for the 2018 season. Drivers interested in testing with Cowley and Century Auto Racing can contact centuryautoracing@gmail.com.

Geoff Bushor’s Century Auto Racing set to field three cars for 2018 campaign

INDIANAPOLIS (December 8, 2017) – The off-season has been anything but quiet for the Formula 4 United States Championship Powered by Honda since its season finale at Circuit of the Americas Formula 1 United States Grand Prix in October. Entering its third season, the series announced its 17-race schedule that starts with supporting Pirelli World Challenge at Virginia International Raceway in April and finishing for the second consecutive year at COTA with F1 in October. The grid-size has also started to expand for 2018 as teams like Miller Vinatieri Motorsports announce their team roster and new teams like Team Benik add F4 U.S. to their development and competition programs.

Last week, F4 U.S. added another championship team to its arsenal. Geoff Bushor, owner and operator of three-time championship-winning Team Pelfrey 1600, formed Century Auto Racing to campaign for the 2018 F4 U.S. title. Bushor, who was exposed to the rapidly growing series in 2017 as an engineer, will field three cars under Century Auto Racing. “After witnessing first-hand the potential of this group, I knew I wanted to become more involved,” said Bushor. “It will be our intention to carry on with Team Pelfrey 1600 and have Century Auto Racing operating with shared resources to continue the team’s prior successes. All the people involved agree that a separate brand was in everyone’s best interest to give the SCCA Pro Racing team a new and fresh image.”

Century Auto Racing started testing two cars in November and anticipates that the third car will be delivered by the first official series test in January. “The F4 U.S. Championship is a great platform and challenging series for Century Auto Racing to develop drivers in junior formula cars.” Nick Andries, Championship winning driver coach for Team Pelfrey 1600, said. “Being part of the shared resources with Team Pelfrey 1600, I expect to continue the success into the F4 U.S. Championship. I am looking forward to joining Century Auto Racing in the 2018 campaign.” Bushor’s long resume includes working with a championship winning IndyCar team, engineering internationally with Team USA in the A1GP series and successfully running F1600 cars for the last five years for three championships, 39 wins, and 133 podiums. Testing and season seat opportunities are still available with Century Auto Racing.
